Year of Biblical Literacy Seminar: Interpreting the Bible
Soma Blue Mountains Year of Biblical Literacy Bible Workshop No 1 “Interpreting the Bible” Led by Stuart Brooking Do you sometimes read a passage in the Bible and wonder – ‘what does that mean?’ Or notice the styles of language are different from one book to another, or even one chapter to another – what do we do with that? The Bible is made up of lots of types of writing (genres) which can sometimes be confusing. The goal of this workshop will be to help us move from confusion to enjoyment! In the process we’ll have a better understanding of what God is saying to us. The technical name for all this is ‘hermeneutics’ – notice how I didn’t use that in the heading, that was tactical! Hermes (or the Roman equivalent ‘Mercury’) was the Greek god who listened to the gods and would come and tell the people on earth what they thought, so the word hermeneutics is about interpreting God’s word for us today. Sign up today – we’ll have two good hours of fun in the word of God. Place TBA – see you there, when we work out where! Supper provided!
